DO YOU KNOW WHEN ‘A LOT’ IS TOO MUCH?

Problem

One in five women suffer from heavy menstrual blood loss, also called menorrhagia, but most of them have no idea that they do. Due to the taboo on menstruation, knowledge of what is a ‘normal’ menstruation is not general knowledge. To get women, especially young girls, to rethink whether their flow is normal or a lot, WOMEN Inc launched the second ‘Break the Cycle’ campaign, to increase general knowledge of menorrhagia. So .. how do we inform women of what is normal, make them question their own status quo, and give them the tools to do something about it, all in one campaign?

Solution

By developing a campaign that gives free rein to the stories that women with menorrhagia have to tell. Because their stories are shocking to say the least. Together with WOMEN Inc. we selected 4 out of nearly 100 personal stories and anecdotes. We chose to not adorn them too much, to really let their words hit. With the line ‘Weet jij wanneer veel te veel is?’ (do you know when ‘a lot’ is too much?), we encourage the audience to let these stories sink in and rethink their own menstruation.

Creative

In line with the previous campaign, this campaign features 4 powerful portraits of women who have a story to tell. In stills, their portraits are adorned with their citations, and in animations, the sound design elevates the intimate nature of their words.
