New energy for the oldest theatre in the Netherlands

Problem

Leidse Schouwburg is the oldest theatre in the Netherlands that is still in use; built in 1705 and a household name in Leiden and the surrounding area, and in the Dutch theatre world. Stadsgehoorzaal is the (almost) two-century-old (1826) concert hall in Leiden. Together they form Leidse Schouwburg Stadsgehoorzaal and they want to appeal to a broader and younger audience with its broad programming and the opening of an independent Café; Café Caat.

The positioning and identity were due for revision; the programming had been appealing to a broader and younger audience for some time, but due to the intervention of Corona, the sharpening of the positioning and identity was delayed. With the opening of the completely new Café Caat as a replacement for the café in the Stadsgehoorzaal, on the site of the former medieval Sint Catharina Gasthuis (1275), the moment had arrived.

Solution

KesselsKramer developed a positioning as a vibrant cultural powerhouse full of stories and an identity that places both Leidse Schouwburg Stadsgehoorzaal and Café Caat (again) emphatically in the heart of Leiden and the surrounding area.

The new logo symbolizes the three ways to experience the stories that come together there; watching, listening, sharing. It forms the basis of a playful new identity and campaigns full of energy, which do justice to the current innovative and classic programming for young and old.
The positioning and identity of Café Caat are derived from the corporate positioning and identity, so that it can operate both independently and as a family.
