Bob Mizer and Tom of Finland were two of the most significant figures of twentieth century erotic art and forefathers of an emergent post-war gay culture. These evocative and lusty representations of masculine desire and joyful, eager sex between men proliferated and were disseminated worldwide at a time when the closet was the norm, and there was no such thing as a gay community.
The suite of communications for the exhibition included digital, out of home and in-museum pieces and an exclusive catalog that pays homage to Tom and Bob’s infamous Zine Physique Pictorial published in the 50’s and 60’s.
