KK Outlet continue the Red Stripe MAKE campaign with the ‘Makers’ of Carnival project. Building on Red Stripe’s integral links to Notting Hill Carnival, KK Outlet have conceived a project which showcases the very makers behind the carnival – those who make it happen each year.
Commissioning renowned British photographer Pennie Smith to document ten makers, KK Outlet have curated an outdoor exhibition of Smith’s photographs. The black and white portraits, shot on film using a Pentax, will not feature in a conventional gallery, but on the wooden chipboards erected to protect shops and houses; reflecting the DIY atmosphere of the carnival. This street gallery, situated on the corner of Portobello Road and Lancaster Road, will provide the ultimate alternative backdrop to the carnival, situated along a traditional route into its very heart.
The following images below are a mixture of Pennie’s posters and a selection of behind the scenes photographs.
The work was featured on AnOther Magazine, HUH Magazine, Think – Work – Play, Planet Ivy, Obsessed With London, Glow Magazine, Vice, Rookie Creative, The Blu Mile
